Our take
Ziptrek is the most reviewed activity on our Queenstown activities page outside the big four, with over 1,000 reviews averaging around 4.9. It runs about 2 hours from a treehouse beside the top of the Skyline gondola, with two guides and 10 people at most. A hat and gloves come with it in winter.
Two things catch people out. The gondola ticket isn't included, so budget for it on top, and the listing asks you to allow at least an hour from the gondola base to check-in, 90 minutes at busy times. The weight limit is 125 kg, and the Kea tour has a 30 kg minimum. Reviews on the listing mention a downhill walk with steep steps between lines. The listing shows hotel pickup and food as included, but the tour starts at the top of the hill, so don't count on either. Under 14s ride with a paying adult.
Good for
- Families with older children who want height without a free fall
- A 2 hour slot around a fixed-time trip, morning or afternoon
Think twice if
- You're over 125 kg, or dislike steep steps and rough paths on foot
- You're on a tight budget; the gondola ticket adds to the cost
