Our take
RealNZ's premium cruise runs 2.5 hours on a boutique vessel with 40 guests at most, with a canapé lunch served on board. Arrive 30 minutes early; check-in closes 15 minutes before departure and the gates 5 minutes before. Parking is separate. It's wheelchair accessible. The record is small, 41 reviews averaging around 4.6.
Our Milford Sound cruise comparison names it the one we'd skip. It covers the same fiord as the standard sailing with half an hour added, and much of that extra time goes on eating inside rather than standing at the rail. Dane and Stacey, on a different lunch cruise, said boarding and lunch took about half an hour of their time on the water. If the meal matters, the Fiordland Jewel's lunch cruise has a smaller boat and a chef's menu.
Good for
- Travellers who want a seated meal with a small crowd
- Wheelchair users who want a smaller boat
Think twice if
- You'd rather spend the time on deck than at a table
- You're on a budget, since it costs about twice a standard cruise

From the operator
Experience the majestic Milford Sound onboard the MV Sinbad vessel. Cruising the length of the fiord you’ll enjoy freshly prepared canapes and bubbles made from local produce, while you take in the beauty of Milford Sound. Explore the outside areas of The Sinbad and enjoy allocated seating with uninterrupted views.
Our experienced skippers tailor the cruise to take into consideration weather and recent wildlife sightings, ensuring you’ll see the best that Milford Sound has to offer on the day. Experience the cool spray of a waterfall as you move in close to sheer rock faces or watch out for dolphins, seals and, in season, the rare Fiordland crested penguins
Elevate your experience and create unforgettable memories aboard the MV Sinbad. Informative, participative and relaxed, this is the perfect way to experience what’s been called the “eighth wonder of the world”.

The tour, stop by stop
- Experience the unparalleled beauty of Milford Sound on our premium Milford Cruise with a warm welcome and drink on arrival. With limited capacity, this smaller vessel offers an intimate experience. The cruise begins and finishes at the same location - RealNZ Milford Sound Visitor Terminal, Milford Sound 9679. About 150 min.
- While cruising through Milford Sound, admire the iconic Mitre Peak. Rising dramatically above the fiord, its distinctive triangular summit is one of the most recognizable landmarks in New Zealand
- One of Milford Sound’s stunning two permanent waterfalls, Bowen Falls plunges 162 meters into the fiord. On clear days the spray catches the light; on rainy days it roars - either way, it is pure Milford magic
- Stirling Falls cascades 146 meters from a glacier-fed, U-shaped hanging valley between Elephant and Lion Mountains, making it Milford Sound’s second-largest permanent waterfall. Named after Captain Stirling, who navigated the HMS Cleo here in the 1870s, it’s a breathtaking sight. Step onto the deck to feel its refreshing mist
What's included
- Welcome drink - Champagne (18 years old and above)
- Local curated canapes and bubbles

Piopiotahi Milford Sound is one of the world's most spectacular environments, and it comes with natural hazard risk. A large earthquake or tsunami is extremely unlikely during your visit, especially a short one. Even so, these hazards do pose a risk to life, and once you are there, your options to stay safe are limited.
What to do: If an earthquake feels LONG or STRONG, Get GONE. Move up and away from waterways (the fiord and rivers) as quickly as possible. If you see or hear a landslide, do the same.
